The Twin Cities Saxophone Concert series returns with a recital from Dr. Scott Litroff at Schmitt Music Bloomington! We are proud supporters of this partnership focused on building community and spreading awareness of opportunities for saxophonists and sax enthusiasts in the Twin Cities.

Scott Litroff is a saxophonist recognized for his versatility as a performer and educator in both jazz and classical styles. Dr. Litroff performed his solo debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, and has performed at venues including Weill Hall, Merkin Hall, The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Yoshi’s Club San Francisco, Jazz Alley in Seattle, and Akebono Hall in Japan. He has performed alongside some of the world’s finest musicians including Ray Anderson, Bakithi Kumalo, Steve Salerno, and Nellie McKay, and has performed under the baton of renowned conductors including George Manahan, Rosen Milanov, Joseph Colaneri, and David Hayes. Dr. Litroff serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz at Queensborough Community College, and is an active clinician. He is also on the Board of Directors of the TWNY Music Guild, an organization dedicated to providing concert opportunities to talented musicians in the NY metro area.
Dr. Litroff enjoys collaborating with composers, and has commissioned works for saxophone by Elliot Bark, David Loeb, Andriy Lehki, Sidney Boquiren, David Campbell, Karl Hinze, Jason Gerraughty, and Dawn Chambers. His contemporary music ensemble, the Aurora Trio, commissions and performs new works for saxophone, flute, and piano. His collaboration with the Oatmeal Jazz combo on the group’s second album resulted in recognition by Down Beat Magazine with a one-page review of the album, entitled All Stirred Up.
Scott’s numerous awards and honors include the prestigious 2013 Samuel Baron Prize, the 2012 Ackerman Prize in Music, the 2011 Bob Meyers Award for Excellence in Jazz, First Prize in the Stony Brook University Graduate Concerto Competition, First Prize in the Mannes Concerto Competition, and Two-Time Winner of the Stony Brook Undergraduate Concerto Competition. He is the first saxophonist to have won these competitions.
Dr. Litroff received Doctor of Musical Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Music degrees from Stony Brook University, and a Master of Music degree from the Mannes College of Music. His former teachers include Ray Anderson, Allen Won, Christopher Creviston, and Ralph Lalama.
Scott Litroff is proud to be a P. Mauriat endorser, performing and recording exclusively on P. Mauriat saxophones. He currently plays the Master 97A alto sax (Gold Plate) and the System 76 2nd edition soprano sax (two-piece).
