Get to know us!
We’re proud to be a part of the fine music education that you provide to your students, and encourage you to get acquainted with the new SDC team.
Jodi has had music in her life since she can remember. Starting with vivid memories of learning where “Middle C” was at the age of three and plucking out “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” by ear. Throughout the years she has dabbled with a variety of instruments including: Violin, Piano and Tuba. Mostly she found her excellence in vocal performance and has performed in a variety of ensembles and venues from National choirs, to small jazz groups and the musical theater stage.
Professionally, Jodi has 15 years of corporate finance experience and enjoys the detective work in getting to the root of issues. She was happy to make the move to bring music back to her day to day life and is proud to head up this knowledgeable and wonderful team!
Mitch began his musical adventures at a young age. Being born into a family that always had music playing, it wasn’t hard to see he would soon grow a love and admiration for music. He began playing music at a young age and would continue to play and perform through his life. Playing in his High School Jazz band and small bands he set his sight on an education in music. Passionate about music he attended Minneapolis Community and Technical College for an Associate’s degree in Studio Production Engineering. After finding he enjoys helping others with musical needs he soon found a perfect fit with Schmitt Music as a Sales Associate. Working up to a dual position as Accessory and Print Specialist he became part of the SDC team and continues to work with the team.
In his free time Mitch enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and their two cats and cooking in his much too small kitchen. Grateful for the musical gift his parents gave him, Mitch continues to help new and experienced musicians with their musical needs.
Michele received her Doctorate of Music in Composition from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and has taught composition, beginning and advanced music theory and acoustics at St. Olaf College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Northwestern University and Columbia College in Chicago. She has also received numerous awards and recognitions including ASCAPlus, two Jeff nominations, Pi Kappa Lambda and was a St. Magnus Festival participant in Orkney. Her most beloved recognition is the Civic Achievement Award from the city of Mountlake Terrace, WA, when she was a girl.
Michele studied with Amnon Wolman, Michael Pisaro, M. William Karlins, Pauline Oliveros, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Sally Beamish, Marta Ptaszynska, Gerhardt Staebler, Andrew Imbrie and Barbara Monk Feldman. Her music is influenced by rhythmic shifts and tension imbued with timbral absurdities and indifference to the listener. She has received commissions and awards for symphonic and choral works, theatrical works and movies.
Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Mike has been playing saxophone professionally for over twenty years. In that time, his playing has taken him around the country playing in big bands, jazz combo groups, orchestra pits, and show bands, as well as ten years working with Carnival Cruise Lines as a saxophonist and Musical Director aboard their ships. Since moving to the Twin Cities in 2014 to join Schmitt Music, Mike has performed with a number of local acts, as well as currently performing with Power Of Ten, Hornucopia, and Looking Bacharach Presents: What the World Needs Now.
Mike enjoys working with educators in our Bid Department, helping them make informed decisions and meeting their budgetary needs.
