We are bringing the funk with the first annual Twin Cities Trombone Day at Schmitt Music Bloomington! Enjoy a day filled with performances, clinics, presentations and celebrating all things trombone, featuring a recital and masterclass with trombonist Sasha Romero!

Enjoy sessions with experts in the field and learn about how to develop your sound and musicianship. The Trombone Shop at Schmitt Music is excited to bring back this special event in our new space in Bloomington, MN!

  • 9 AM – "Teaching Low Brass Production: Posture, the Breath and Articulation" with John Froelich

    John Froelich is a Minneapolis freelance bass trombonist. In this session, discover how your body affects your sound, and how to produce a stronger tone through mastering your posture, breath and articulation.

  • 10 AM – Alexis Smith gear presentation

    Alexis Smith is a product specialist for S. E. Shires. She received her B.M. from the Manhattan School of Music and her M.M. from The Juilliard School. Alexis is also the principal trombonist of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra based in Fort Meyers, Florida and a co-founder of the Boston Trombone Project. In this session, learn about the variety of gear available, and how it impacts your musicianship.

  • 11 AM – University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Trombone Quartet Performance

  • 12 PM – Break

    Take a break and check out some gear with Trombone Specialists in the Schmitt Music Trombone shop, or visit any of the fantastic lunch spots near Schmitt Music Bloomington.

  • 1 PM – Recital by Sasha Romero

    Special Guest Sasha Romero will perform a trombone recital. Sasha is the principal trombonist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City. See below for her full bio.

  • 2:45 PM – Carson King-Fournier presentation

  • 4 PM – Masterclass with Sasha Romero

    Special Guest Sasha Romero will conduct a masterclass. Learn from the very best as she guides a selection of musicians in improving their musical skills and techniques.


Sasha Romero was appointed principal trombone of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 2018. Prior to her appointment at The MET, she held the position of principal trombone with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra from 2016-2018.

Hailing from Longview, Texas, Sasha grew up within the acclaimed and robust Texas band system and achieved great musical success at a young age. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Music degree at Baylor University, where she studied with Brent Phillips; and her Master of Music degree at Rice University, studying with Allen Barnhill.

In addition to a lengthy list of national and international solo and chamber music competition wins to her name, Sasha is honored to have been a semi-finalist in the first Brass Division of the 2019 XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Sasha is a passionate educator, and currently serves on the trombone faculties at Rutgers University, Mannes School of Music, and Bard College Conservatory of Music. A highly sought-after teacher, soloist, and clinician, she has presented solo recitals and masterclasses at numerous colleges, universities, music conservatories, and industry conventions across the United States.
