Join us for a performance by Rodrigo Pires de Lima & Iryna Brazhnik at Schmitt Music Bloomington on Thursday, February 2 at 6PM!
Pires de Lima & Brazhnik will perform a recital of works for saxophone as part of the Twin Cities Saxophone Concert Series – a partnership focused on building community and spreading awareness of opportunities for saxophonists and sax enthusiasts in the Twin Cities.
The program, Traditional vs. New intertwines traditional compositions by notable composers with new works, including one by each Brazhnik and Pires De Lima. Currently, Rodrigo Pires de Lima is a Saxophone professor at the Lisbon Superior School of Music and Professor of Improvisation in Music therapy and Culture and Repertory in Music Therapy at the LusÃada University. Both are avid composers and performers of new works.
Rodrigo Pires de Lima finished his Doctoral Degree, at the University of Minnesota (USA ) in May 2019. He also completed a Specialization (21stCentury Music for Saxophone) at the Conservatory of Strasbourg (France), a Master Degree in Music Education, Master in Music and he graduated in Music-Saxophone at the Lisbon Superior School of Music.
Pires de Lima’s Doctoral project, “The use of human echolocation in music” the first musical piece for people with visual impairment without resorting to braille as a reading aid, obtained prominence in several Media channels around the world.
Currently, Rodrigo Pires de Lima is a Saxophone professor at the Lisbon Superior School of Music and Professor of Improvisation in Music therapy and Culture and Repertory in Music Therapy at the LusÃada University.
Pires de Lima was a Saxophone Soloist at the Lisbon National Guard Symphonic Band from 2004 to 2019. He was saxophone professor at the Silva Marques Regional Conservatory of Music and Dance, Lu.s Ant.nio Maldonado Rodrigues Conservatory and at the Lisbon Metropolitan Conservatory.
As a chamber music performer he collaborated with the Czech pianist and composer Zdenka Kosnarova as Duo 152, and together toured Europe and performed recitals that have included some original compositions.
Rodrigo Pires de Lima is a Buffet Crampom and a Eugene Rousseau Mouthpieces artist.
