Please join us for a special one-hour recital featuring students of Dr. Jack Winerock: pianists Barry Zhang, Sol Park and Junhao Wang will perform at Schmitt Music Kansas City on Tuesday, January 9 at 5:30PM!
Jack Winerock is an American classical pianist and piano professor in the Department of Music and Dance in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Kansas. He has received national and international acclaim as a teacher, clinician, and adjudicator. Winerock’s students have won prizes in national and international competitions, including the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

Pianist Chi (Barry) Zhang is 17 years old and a senior at Lawrence Freestate High School and Lawrence Virtual School in Lawrence, Kansas. He aspires to be a concert pianist and is currently studying with Jack Winerock; Professor of Piano at the University of Kansas.
Barry has received numerous awards over the years at regional, national, and international competitions and festivals. He was awarded first prize in the Dubois International Piano Competition and Festival hosted at Bowling Green State University in February of 2017.
During the summer of 2017 Barry was a prizewinner in the Kaufman International Piano Competition in New York, the IIYM International Piano Competition, and the Pittsburg State University Premier Piano Festival and Competition. Just recently he was awarded first prize in the 2017 Ovation Young Artist Piano Competition and will represent Kansas at the regional competition for the 2017 Music Teacher’s National Association Senior Division Piano Competition. He was named a National YoungArts winner for 2017.
In his free time outside of practicing, Barry enjoys spending time with friends, exercising, and cooking.
After high school, he wishes to continue pursuing a career as a concert pianist as well as continuing his training at a music conservatory.
Sol Park, from South Korea, is a junior at Overland Christian School in Overland Park, Kansas. She began playing piano at age five and has won multiple awards for piano performance in South Korea and the United States.
Some of her accomplishments include first prize at the 11th Haneum Music Competition, the Eumaksekye Piano Competition, the WMN Competition, the YNMN Competition, the Kansas Music Teachers Association, and the Music Teachers National Association. She has performed with the Busan Neo Philharmonic Orchestra and has been featured in solo performances in Seoul, South Korea.
Sol currently studies with Professor Jack Winerock of the University of Kansas.
Junhao Wang, a junior in high school, is currently 16 years old. He has studied piano since the age of 7. Recently, he moved to Lawrence to study with Dr. Jack Winerock, Chair of Piano of the University of Kansas.
He has competed in many competitions, and in 2017, he placed second in MTNA’s State Level Competition in Kansas.
Junhao Wang has interests in math, art, and travel.
