Adam Piotr Żukiewicz
A native of Poland, Adam Piotr Żukiewicz has performed across Europe, United States, Canada, Japan and Brazil. He has appeared on TV in Poland and Canada and his performances were broadcast in USA, Canada, Italy, Germany, Slovenia and Poland.
Maintaining an active international career Adam Żukiewicz performs solo recitals as well as chamber music concerts with renowned instrumentalists and vocalists in USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong and Poland. Highlights of recent performances include debut concerts with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Sinfonietta, Toronto Concert Orchestra and Celebrity Symphony Orchestra; debut recital at the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona (March 2014) as well as debut at the Residenztheater during the 2013 Munich Opera Festival Chamber Music Concert Series, performing a chamber music concert with Max Joseph Trio and members of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester.
Competition successes include several first prizes in competitions in Poland, First Prize at the 2012 Shean Piano Competition in Canada, First Prize at the 2011 TD Canada Trust Music Competition, and Second Prize at the 13th Pacific Piano Competition in 2011 in Richmond, BC. Most recently Adam Żukiewicz became a medalist of the 2014 Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona, Spain.
As an avid performer of new music, Mr. Żukiewicz regularly performs modern works, including several premieres of new compositions; most recently Brooke Joyce’s Lament for Orlando (2016), Stefano Sacher’s La memoria di Medea (2016), Zdenek Trnka’s Cervnova Nokturna (sonata pro klavir) (2015) and John Beckwith’s Follow me (2013) with clarinetist Peter Stoll. Mr. Żukiewicz’s interest in modern music manifests itself also through own composition and commissioning of new works from modern composers such as Bryan Christian and Wendy Lee.
Always keen on exploring new musical experiences, Adam Żukiewicz joined the Bayerisches Staatsoper for the 2015 production of Alban Berg’s Lulu, under the artistic direction of Kirill Petrenko. The following year Mr. Żukiewicz was invited to participate in the Europa Tour 2016 of the Bayerisches Staatsorchester, working and performing with Maestro Petrenko and soprano Diana Damrau.
Other musical projects include composition of a song cycle scheduled for the summer 2016, based on the first sixteen Dark Elegies by a Canadian poet Adriana Davies, from the collection “Changing My Skin. Dark Elegies and other poems.”
Pursuing many educational interests, in 2009 Adam Żukiewicz organized a regularly run series of music workshops at the St Michael’s Choir School in Toronto, exposing students of the school to highest quality of musical performances and providing them with an insight into the classical compositions as well as instruments through the direct contact with the renowned international and Canadian artists.
Adam Żukiewicz has studied with such renowned pianists and pedagogues as Pawel Zawadzki, Dario de Rosa, Alberto Miodini, Arnaldo Cohen, Vanessa Latarche, Marietta Orlov, James Parker and Jerome Lowenthal. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto and Masters of Music degree from Indiana University. He has also studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK, and was a music scholar at the United World College of the Adriatic in Duino, Italy. His doctoral dissertation “Chopin’s Third Piano Sonata, Op. 58: Late Style, Formal Ambiguity, and Performance Considerations” was published in 2013 by Lambert Academic Publishing.
