Toru’s program at Schmitt Music will include pieces by Mozart, Schumann, and Chopin. This event is free and open to the public!

Toru Oyama

Toru Oyama is a Japanese pianist who has been continually expanding his musicality and musicianship. He earned a BA in Letters (English Literature) from Keio University in Tokyo before moving to Europe, where he studied with Professor Julian Jacobson at Royal College of Music in London and at Utrecht Conservatory with Professor Alan Weiss. He is active as a recitalist, chamber musician,accompanist and concerto soloist. Toru performs all across Europe and in his native country, Japan. He also has regular concert tours in Indonesia and Malaysia. Toru performs a broad spectrum of Classical and Romantic composers, but specializes in French repertoire such as Fauré, Debussy and Ravel. While Toru is an active performer, he is dedicated to teaching talented young pianists.

He was appointed as “Artist in Residence” at the Jakarta Conservatory of Music and taught the best young Indonesian pianists from October 2014 to January 2015. His artistic activities have been covered by a wide range of media, including BBC TV and The Jakarta Globe.
