Shipping & Returns Policy

Worry-free shopping is what Schmitt Music is all about, and customer satisfaction is our number one goal. We want you to be totally satisfied with your purchase and with our company - if something is not right, let us know!

Shipping Policy

Shop our full line of instruments, accessories, music books, and more. Orders over $99* of qualifying products ship for free to your home anywhere in the lower 48 states! Orders up to $98.99 will be charged $5.99 shipping & handling. All orders may be upgraded to USPS Priority Mail for a $14.99 shipping & handling charge.

*Music stands and larger instrument stand orders will be charged $9.99 shipping & handling.

Order Processes

Accessories and print music will ship via USPS, while larger orders will ship via USPS, UPS, or FedEx. Tracking numbers will be provided for all shipments. We require a signature upon delivery for all shipments that include instruments or orders over $150. If you have any special shipping requests, please leave them in the order comments and we will do our best to accommodate.

Most orders ship within 1-2 business days; select instrument and mouthpiece product processing times may vary. Schmitt Music is not able to guarantee any delivery dates or times. After fulfillment, delivery carriers will calculate transit times one day after the order has left our facility. Please note online order operations are closed on weekends.

When you get an instrument from Schmitt Music you can be confident it will arrive in perfect playing condition. Instrument orders undergo professional inspection and adjustment prior to being shipped; because of this instrument orders will ship within three business days.

International Shipping

We offer free shipping to the contiguous United States on qualifying orders. Free shipping is not offered to Alaska, Hawaii, or international addresses. Shipping costs can vary depending on location and the nature of the order.

Military and Educator Discounts

We show our deepest respect to those who are serving or have served in our military and great appreciation to all music educators. As a token of appreciation, we provide those discounts at checkout while shopping in-store. Here you can find more information on our Military Discount. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide those discounts while online shopping at this time.

Returns Policy

If you are dissatisfied with your purchase or have an incorrectly shipped item, we are here to help! You may return most items within 30 days of in-store purchase or 14 days of delivery from an online order for a full refund. If more time is needed, arrangements can be made if communication is within those respected time windows. For all online returns, you will be responsible for the return shipping cost. This comes out to be $5.99 in most cases, which will be deducted from the total refund. If the return is a result of an error from us, such as an incorrect product or defective item, we will cover the return shipping costs.

Non-Returnable Items

The following items are not returnable and all sales final:

  • Reeds
  • Harmonicas and Pitch Pipes
  • Recorders
  • CDs, DVDs, Video Tapes, Computer Software/CD-ROM
  • Choral Music and Choral Accessories (i.e. CDs, folders)
  • Any Imported Item
  • Wedding and Seasonal Print Music
  • Elementary Classroom Materials
  • Instrumental Solo & Ensemble Singular Works (not in a collection)
  • Textbooks
  • Clearance Print Music
  • Consignment, Demo, and Used Musical Instruments
  • Items over $8,500 or items marked as special order are not returnable because they are highly customized to the player's specifications. Your instrument purchase may be covered by the warranty offered by the manufacturer; this warranty is specific to the product and maker of your instrument. If you have an issue with an item that is not eligible for a return, we will work on your behalf with the manufacturer to resolve the issue.


Once we receive your purchase for a return, our team will verify its contents and inspect it to ensure it is in acceptable condition**. We will then credit back your original form of payment within 7 to 14 business days. Should the original payment method no longer be valid for any reason, we can offer store credit via a Schmitt Music gift card.

**All items must be returned in the condition in which they were received, including manufacturer packaging, tags, documentation, and any accessories. Returns will be refused if items arrive used or damaged due to improper packaging. Please ensure returns are carefully packaged. Mouthpieces and headjoints on trial must show little to no wear and tear to be accepted for returns.

Refunding Original Shipping Fees

Standard shipping, Priority Mail, and expedited shipping charges from your original purchase are not refunded, unless we have made a mistake with your order, or the returned item is determined to be defective after we inspect it.


In-store purchases can be exchanged with another product case by case. For online orders, we are not able to offer direct exchanges. If you decide you want a different product from an online order, please Contact our Ecommerce Team to set up a return for a refund as outlined above and place a new order. Refunds will be processed as soon as we receive your return.
