The Yamaha YSL-871 Alto Trombone, part of Yamaha's Custom line of trombones, is a top-notch companion to Yamaha's other professional tenor and bass offerings. Featuring a .470"/.490" dual bore handslide, 7 1/8" yellow brass bell, and a gold brass leadpipe, the YSL-871 provides an open sound with a solid core and substantial projection, all without losing its alto character.
In our opinion the YSL-871 is one of the best production altos on the market. Its dual-bore setup provides an open response with excellent slotting and the 7 1/8" bell broadens the sound in comparison to other setups. The gold brass leadpipe balances with warmth in the sound, preventing it from becoming hollow in the middle or too strident at upper dynamics.
The 871 works beautifully in larger orchestra settings or in sections where the tenor and bass are using larger gear. It still remains nimble for chamber or solo settings however. Comes with Yamaha hardshell case and 48A mouthpiece.
