Refund policy

If you are dissatisfied with your purchase or have an incorrectly shipped item, we are here to help! You may return most items within 30 days* for a full refund.

*Within 30 days of delivery for online/shipped orders, and 30 days from time of purchase for in-store.

Non-Returnable Items

The following items are not returnable and all sales are final:

  • Opened oils, greases, rosin, reeds, or other consumables
  • Used or opened earplugs
  • Harmonicas and pitch pipes
  • Recorders
  • Imported items (e.g. ERGObrass products, Lotus mouthpieces)
  • Adjustable or moldable items (e.g. KorfkerRest Shoulder Rest)
  • CDs, DVDs, videotapes, computer software/CD-ROM
  • Wedding and seasonal print music
  • Clearance print music
  • Choral music and choral accessories (i.e. CDs, folders)
  • Elementary classroom materials or textbooks
  • Instrumental Solo & Ensemble singular works (not in a collection)
  • Items marked as special order
  • Pre-owned, consignment and demo musical instruments

Returning Your Purchase

Online Returns

For all online returns, you will be responsible for the return shipping cost of a flat rate of $8.99. If the return is a result of an error from us, such as an incorrect product or defective item, we will cover the return shipping costs.

Online orders can also be returned to any of our store locations with proof of order (e.g. packing slip or order confirmation email). Our sales staff will arrange for your return to make it to our e-commerce team. A refund will then be issued and a notification will be emailed out.

In-store Returns

You can return your purchase to any of our store locations regardless of the Schmitt Music location you originally purchased from.

Digital Keyboard Returns

Digital keyboards may be returned within 30 days of delivery, following the same process as other online orders. Because of their size and weight, return shipping fees will vary and are not covered by the standard $8.99 return rate.

To start a return, please use our regular online return process. Once your request is received, our team will calculate the actual return shipping cost based on your location and the instrument model. We will then contact you with a quote and return instructions before the item is shipped back.

Please note: returned keyboards must be in their original packaging and in like-new condition, including all accessories, manuals, and power supplies. Returns showing signs of use, damage, or missing components may be subject to a restocking fee or refused.

If a keyboard arrives defective or was shipped in error, Schmitt Music will cover all return shipping costs.

Refunds

When we receive your package, our team will verify its contents and inspect it to ensure it is in acceptable condition*. We will then credit back your original form of payment within 7 business days. Should the original payment method no longer be valid for any reason, we can offer store credit via a Schmitt Music gift card.

*All items must be returned in the condition in which they were received, including manufacturer packaging, tags, documentation, and any accessories. Returns will be refused if items arrive used or damaged due to improper packaging. Please ensure returns are carefully packaged.

*Mouthpieces and headjoints on trial must show very little to no wear-and-tear to be accepted for returns.

Refunding Original Shipping Fees

Shipping charges from your original purchase are not refunded, unless we have made a mistake with your order, or the returned item is determined to be defective after we inspect it.

Exchanges

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer direct exchanges. If you decide you want a different product, please contact us to set up a return for a refund as outlined above and place a new order. Placing a new order now will expedite the arrival of your new item and help to ensure it will not go out of stock.

Refunds will be processed as soon as we receive your return.

We are happy to offer 10% off on accessories and print discounts for military and Schmitt-partnered music educators* when shopping at Schmitt Music.
