Yamaha YAS-62 Prototype Alto Saxophone – Eugene Rousseau Collection
This Yamaha YAS-62 alto saxophone is a pre-production prototype, confirmed by Yamaha, and holds a special place in the Eugene Rousseau Collection as the first YAS-62 he received and played. The YAS-62 series, launched in 1978 after six years of development, was created in close collaboration with Dr. Rousseau, who began working with Yamaha in 1972 as their chief consultant for saxophone research. His expertise in acoustics and performance significantly influenced the design, aiming to offer advanced features with an ideal balance of pitch, embouchure, and playability.
This particular instrument is in playable condition but would benefit from a professional cleaning and adjustment to reach optimal performance. Its unique status as a prototype and its direct association with Dr. Rousseau make it a valuable piece for collectors and enthusiasts of saxophone history.
