Pre-owned Yamaha YSL-643 Large Bore Tenor Trombone

Designed in collaboration with master builder Reynold Schilke the Yamaha YSL-643 was one of Yamaha’s early large bore tenor trombone in the 1970’s and became an extremely well-regarded member of the Yamaha lineage.  Inspired by the classic Conn 88H the YSL-643 featured an 8 ¼” rose brass bell, reverse yellow brass tuning slide, closed wrap F-attachment with rotor, and a unique .551” bore handslide with nickel silver outer tubes.

This YSL-643 is in wonderful condition for its age; outside of a small amount of lacquer wear on the main tuning slide the lacquer is nearly 100% and there are no obvious dings or dents anywhere on the instrument.  The handslide is a 9+/10 and, outside of a small amount of scratches, there is no wear on the inner handslide tubes.  This trombone is a good example of why we love vintage Yamahas; it has a wonderfully open blow (likely due to the 551” bore”) that provides power and projection combined with a timbre that has some of the classic Conn sound but with a different denseness to its core.  It has a nicely balanced response that can have weight but without getting overly heavy and the valve register is stable without becoming too stuffy.  A great instrument for Yamaha connoisseurs or for anyone looking for a great playing large bore tenor at a great price.  Comes with original Yamaha hard case and mouthpiece.
