The Calcanius violin, made by Bernardo Calcagno (also known as Bernardus Calcanius), a Genoese maker in the 18th century, was consigned to our store for a period.

During this time, Peter Bingen, the previous head luthier of our violin shop and a renowned local violin maker, meticulously crafted a replica from the original Calcanius violin. This replica is truly stunning, showcasing Bingen's exceptional craftsmanship.

While faithfully replicating the aesthetic qualities of the original, Bingen ensured that the replica also captures the resonant and nuanced sound characteristics that define the Calcanius violin, making it a remarkable instrument both visually and acoustically.

The only discernible difference between the replica and the original is the age factor.
