I purchased the telecoping extension for the ERGOBrass support I already had (that rests on the chair) to use with a basset clarinet. The instrument is quite heavy and neckstraps always get in the way for me with any sort of clarinet. The ERGOBrass support was certainly working but I was feeling a bit trapped in the position I had to sit to keep the support resting on the chair and had concerns about how well this would work in a potential performance situation. So, I decided to give the extension a try. Sitting in a chair with the extended support resting on the floor or using it while standing allows for some freedom of movement while providing the needed support. It takes some time to get used to but, for me, it allows for a more comfortable experience and gives reassurance that I can take the basset clarinet outside of the practice room and use it in real-world scenarios.
