Concerto No. 2, Op. 142, offers a dramatic, lyrical, and exhilarating experience, distinct yet on par with the composer’s earlier work. The piano reduction facilitates performances and auditions. Lasting approximately 23 minutes, this 2023 composition features a flute solo accompanied by a full orchestra, including winds, brass, timpani, percussion, harp, piano, celesta, and strings. Commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, it premiered on March 21, 2024, with flutist Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson and conductor Susanna Mälkki at Chicago’s Symphony Center. Published by Theodore Presser Company and dedicated to Höskuldsson.
