Retail Store Manager - Rochester, MN

The Store Manager is a crucial advocate for Schmitt Music and the local community. With a blend of business savvy, a passion for music and the desire to help others succeed, this position leads their team by representing our Core Values. Serve the customer. Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • All aspects of store performance.
  • Achieve positive financial results in these areas: sales, inventory management,
    expenses.
  • Exceed the stores Sales Plan Contribution target.
  • Develop a competent sales team that is engaged in the sales process and driven to
    succeed while keeping the customer experience and perception of the company at the forefront of any interaction.

Community Engagement:
Develop and maintain relationships with the musical community (educators, K-12
representatives, higher education representatives, houses of worship, community groups, etc.) to collaborate and support events, programming, and joint performance ventures, etc. Attend concerts and social events with VIP customers- formal and informal. Non-Negotiable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree in a music business related field.
  • 2+ years of retail and supervisory management and sales experience.
  • Knowledge of music products and instruments required. Band and orchestra product
    knowledge required.
  • Proven success in developing individuals and positively coaching workplace teams.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to
    customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Superior organizational and follow-up skills to ensure responsibilities and goals are
    met within defined deadlines.
  • Detail oriented, able to prioritize work while under pressure in a fast-paced
    environment.
  • Effective and efficient knowledge of computers and Microsoft programs required.
  • Limited travel.
  • Ability to work retail hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Prior retail management experience or retail store ownership experience.
  • Available by December 1st 2020.
  • Additional Supervisory Responsibilities where applicable: Repair Technicians,
    Independent Contractor Educators, Educational Representatives.
  • Valid Driver’s License and background check required.

Work Environment:

Physical Demands:
The responsibilities of this position may frequently require using

Driver / Warehouse Associate - Brooklyn Center, MN

The Driver / Warehouse Associate position directly supports all Schmitt Music sales and is essential to providing a superior customer experience to both external and internal customers. You’ll report to the Delivery and Warehouse Manager at our Brooklyn Center, MN warehouse/headquarters.

What you’ll do:

  • Home deliveries (pianos)
  • Store deliveries (all stock)
  • Off-site event deliveries (all stock)
  • Other warehouse tasks as assigned (may includes but not limited to loading and unloading trucks, unboxing incoming merchandise or relocating and organizing merchandise and supplies)

Band Instrument Technician - Omaha, NE

This is a full-time position for an experienced repair technician. The applicant should have an associates degree from a certified repair program or equivalent repair experience. This person is expected to have a good work ethic, an eye for detail, the ability to multi-task, and function well with a team. There is a strong focus on customer service and work quality. A typical work day is 9:30-6 during the week and an occasional Saturday.

Duties:

  • Brass repair – soldering, dent work, slide straightening, valve repair, etc.
  • Woodwind repair – pad work, key straightening, silver-soldering, corking, etc.
  • Clear communication with customers and store road representatives
  • Accurate record keeping and billing

Requirements:

  • Band instrument repair certification or equivalent work experience in the field
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and E-mail)

There are specific times of the year when we need additional help. If you want to be part of the fun when new band and orchestra students are getting their first instruments, we want to talk to you!

Schmitt Music Educational Representative (“Road Rep”)
  • Make weekly calls on our valued school directors and accounts – band, orchestra & choir.
  • Create and maintain healthy relationships with our valued directors by building trust.
  • Take and deliver school and student instrument repairs. Bring out loaner instruments as needed.
  • Take and deliver accessory, print, and parts orders. Work closely with SDC “Schmitt Director Center” to fulfill.
  • Manage school displays – both beginning band display nights and upper-line displays.
  • Collaborate with store manager to schedule “writers” for displays in Spring and Fall.
  • Present Schmitt Music services in a clear and honest presentation. Exclusive Package.
  • Help plan and execute in-school guest artist events – clinics, masterclasses, conductors…
  • Keep watch on competitors offerings – pricing, monthly payments, displays, guest artists.
  • Set up upper-line displays using store or specialty shops stock. Educational selling events.
  • Create and maintain the Schmitt Music Community – our teachers are part of something bigger than just their district – connections to other great programs and tools.
