Director of Sales (Strings) - Brooklyn Center, MN

The Paul A. Schmitt Violin Shop is a full-service violin shop located at Schmitt Music Company in the thriving arts cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. Schmitt Music is a well-known and respected musical instrument dealer in the Twin Cities, owned and operated by five generations of the Schmitt family. The Paul A. Schmitt Violin Shop is expanding to serve players at all levels and expects to be regarded as one of the best violin shops in the region.
Schmitt Music is currently seeking an accomplished musician for a role in managing upper-line string sales at Schmitt Music’s string shop in Brooklyn Center, MN. The ideal candidate will preferably play violin or viola at a high level and is a part of the local music community. We are looking for a person interested in participating in a collaborative approach to educational outreach, instrument selections, and developing new products in partnership with our head luthier Peter Bingen.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Assisting customers with their instrument purchases
  • Providing expert advice and suggestions for accessories and strings
  • Develop and expand our current customer base by engaging with customers online and in-person through k-12 educational outreach events.
  • Choosing and preparing instruments for customer selections
  • Organizing and maintaining stock levels of instruments in our retail stores
  • Maintaining and developing a best in class online experience
  • Participating with the professional community and collaborating with colleges and universities
  • Participating in the creative development of products and new services
  • Willingness to travel, train, and engage an enthusiastic sales team in the Upper Midwest.

Qualifications:

  • A person who can work with our clients and staff enthusiastically, contribute ideas, and work with teams to accomplish shared goals.
  • A self-motivated individual, seeking opportunities to share our team’s energy for growth while providing best in class service and products.
  • Must be able to play violin or viola at a high level and be discerning about sound quality
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outgoing and engaging in-person and online through social media

Band Instrument Technician - Omaha, NE

This is a full-time position for an experienced repair technician. The applicant should have an associates degree from a certified repair program or equivalent repair experience. This person is expected to have a good work ethic, an eye for detail, the ability to multi-task, and function well with a team. There is a strong focus on customer service and work quality. A typical work day is 9:30-6 during the week and an occasional Saturday.

Duties:

  • Brass repair – soldering, dent work, slide straightening, valve repair, etc.
  • Woodwind repair – pad work, key straightening, silver-soldering, corking, etc.
  • Clear communication with customers and store road representatives
  • Accurate record keeping and billing

Requirements:

  • Band instrument repair certification or equivalent work experience in the field
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and E-mail)
  • Goal oriented personality – able to set and meet goals and deadlines
  • Good customer service and communication skills

Seasonal Band and Orchestra Consultant
Part-Time Seasonal Opportunities

There are specific times of the year when we need additional help. If you want to be part of the fun when new band and orchestra students are getting their first instruments, we want to talk to you!

If you have a basic knowledge of band and orchestra instruments and believe in the value of music education in the schools, we want to talk to you!

School Service Representative - Rochester, MN
Schmitt Music Educational Representative (“Road Rep”)
  • Make weekly calls on our valued school directors and accounts – band, orchestra & choir.
  • Create and maintain healthy relationships with our valued directors by building trust.
  • Take and deliver school and student instrument repairs. Bring out loaner instruments as needed.
  • Take and deliver accessory, print, and parts orders. Work closely with SDC “Schmitt Director Center” to fulfill.
  • Manage school displays – both beginning band display nights and upper-line displays.
  • Collaborate with store manager to schedule “writers” for displays in Spring and Fall.
  • Present Schmitt Music services in a clear and honest presentation. Exclusive Package.
  • Help plan and execute in-school guest artist events – clinics, masterclasses, conductors…
  • Keep watch on competitors offerings – pricing, monthly payments, displays, guest artists.
  • Set up upper-line displays using store or specialty shops stock. Educational selling events.
  • Create and maintain the Schmitt Music Community – our teachers are part of something bigger than just their district – connections to other great programs and tools.
