Doug Kuehn

Owner of Davenport Instrument Repair located in the Schmitt Music store in Brooklyn Center, MN. Doug completed the musical instrument repair course at Red Wing Vocational School in 1978. He moved to Houston, TX as an apprentice in woodwind repair but relocated to Minneapolis in 1980 when an opening at Davenport became available. He mainly performed woodwind repair but, over the years, assumed many of the managerial duties of the shop. In 2005, Doug purchased the business. He is a talented musician with past performance experience including playing saxophone in a fusion band, playing saxophone in a 12-piece horn band, and also performing at weddings.


Brian Simonds

Brian “Zoot” Simonds has over 34 years experience as a woodwind and brass repair technician. He studied music at UW–Green Bay, and learned instrument repair at Red Wing Vocational School (Minnesota State Southeast Technical College). A talented saxophonist, “Zoot” has performed with hundreds of artists, and is currently a member of “Mick Sterling & The Stud Brothers” and various pickup bands. Brian currently resides in Zimmerman, MN with his wife.


Jeff Reitz

Jeff Reitz is owner/operator of Chippewa Valley Band Instrument Repair, located in Schmitt Music Center, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. At that store since 1985 he has had experience in music retail, as a school music representative, woodwind instructor and repair technician. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Music; Applied Saxophone with Woodwind Emphasis (having studied flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon as well) from U.W. Eau Claire. He is also a graduate of Minnesota State Technical College with certification in Band Instrument Repair and is certified in advanced flute padding techniques with David Straubinger though his early start in repair (7th grade) resulted in a trip to the music store with his tenor sax and a box of keys and screws.

He has given clinics and seminars regionally and nationally for NAPBIRT (National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians) and serves on the board of directors for that organization.

Jeff was one of several technicians to serve on staff at the World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis 2003 and has lectured at the Twin Cities Saxophone Day about saxophone maintenance and equipment choices.

He is often an adjudicator at the UW Eau Claire Jazz Festival. Performing as a saxophone and woodwind doubler Jeff has played in jazz, classical and commercial settings including playing with bands and orchestras backing a wide variety of entertainers such as Myron Floren and the Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show, Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Johnny Mathis, Bobby Vinton, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Franki Valli and many others.

Currently Jeff plays with the Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra, the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and Troppo Big Band Jazz Orchestra .
