{"product_id":"pre-owned-prototype-kanstul-large-bore-tenor-trombone","title":"Pre-owned Prototype Kanstul Large Bore Tenor Trombone","description":"\u003cp\u003eFrom it's inception in the early 1980's until closure in 2019 Kanstul Musical Instruments continued the long tradition of California-based brass makers; with master builder Zig Kanstul at the helm they produced a wide range of high-performing brass instruments under their own name, as well as collaborating with other manufacturers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis Kanstul large bore tenor was purchased directly from the factory after their closure as an incomplete prototype, in development to be produced for another company.  Evidence suggests that they used their 1570 model as a starting point, with a 8.5\" two-piece yellow brass bell, yellow brass tuning slide, and .547\" handslide with yellow brass outer tubes, nickel silver overtubes and a yellow brass crook.  It provides a glimpse into the instrument development process and has original labels and markings from the prototyping.  As this was an unfinished model it is not lacquered and at time of purchase did not have a valve section or water key; the original owner added a modern-era OE Thayer valve, utilizing Instrument Innovations components for the trigger linkage, as well as an Amado-style water key.  The overall condition is quite good, with no visible dings or dents, the valve action is fast and smooth and the handslide is a 9+\/10.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a very intriguing-playing instrument; it has a projecting and stable timbre with unique colors in the overtones, and between the original design and the Thayer valve has a nice weight to the response while remaining nimble and flexible.  The partials overall line up well although we do find that the 8th partial (Bb in particular) sits on the high side of the expected intonation tendencies.  This is a wonderful instrument for the Kanstul collector or a player looking for an excellent-performing piece of trombone history.  Does not include a case.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Kanstul","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52623525183781,"sku":"KANSTULPROTOTYPETROMBONE","price":1200.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0847\/1383\/2741\/files\/7.jpg?v=1781896788","url":"https:\/\/www.schmittmusic.com\/products\/pre-owned-prototype-kanstul-large-bore-tenor-trombone","provider":"Schmitt Music","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
