Altus Flutes Artist Alena Walentin Master Class & Performance at Schmitt Music Edina

Please join us at Schmitt Music Edina for a special master class and brief performance with Altus Artist Alena Walentin – presented by Altus Flutes and The Flute Gallery – on Wednesday, March 27th!

All are invited to enjoy a master class at 6:30 p.m. focused on a few students of varying levels, followed by a short performance – this event is free and open to the public!

Alena WalentinAlena Walentin (formerly Lugovkina) is a young concert flautist, an Altus Artist, an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and Yeomen Artist of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. She is a recipient of numerous prizes such as the 1st prize at the British Flute Society’s Competitions, International Flute Competition “Friedrich Kuhlau” (Germany) and Royal Academy of Music flute competition. She has also won several prestigious awards including the Worshipful Company of Musicians Award, the Hattori Foundation Award, The Leverhulme Trust Award, The Philharmonia MMSF Award, “Wolfson Foundation Award” and many other.

Soloist:
Alena performed joint recitals and chamber performances with such big figures in the flute world as William Bennett, Emmanuel Pahud, Emily Beynon, Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson, Lorna McGhee and Denis Bouriakov. She performed concertos with orchestras that included the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Orion Orchestra, the Royal Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra and has performed at the most prestigious venues in the United Kingdom including Royal Festival Hall, Buckingham Palace, Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, Bridgewater Hall, King’s Place and at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. She has recently performed and was interviewed on BBC Radio 3 playing solo and ensemble works with The Riot Ensemble. Alena toured across the Globe, having given recitals in Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Singapore, Taiwan, USA, Russia, Germany, Austria and Spain. Recently, she has signed with 7Star Arts and Scandinavian agency Granvig Artists. 2017 includes tours in Denmark, USA and Japan.

Professor and teacher:
Alena is an enthusiastic teacher and workshop leader, who is very keen to share her knowledge and experience with younger generation. In summer 2014 she was invited to be a coach at the International Music Festival in Switzerland “Verbier Festival” Chamber Week and gave masterclasses at ESMAE (Conservatoire of Music and Theatre) in Porto (Portugal) followed by series of solo concerts. She is a visiting tutor and chamber music coach at the Birmingham Conservatoire, The Purcell School, London Russian Music School and the Junior Royal Academy of Music, has been teaching assistant at the William Bennett International Flute Summer School and in 2015 Alena has been appointed a Flute teacher at the London City University. She often leads Reaching Out sessions in schools with her wind quintet and as a representative of the Live Music Now and Musician’s Company. During her tour in Japan, she will be giving masterclasses in Tokyo (The British School in Tokyo) and Osaka.

Education:
Alena has graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with the highest woodwind exam mark in 2011 studying with Professor William Bennett OBE and Patricia Morris. She received her Master of Music with Distinction at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where she studied with Christopher Green, Philippa Davies, Sarah Newbold, Ian Clarke and Sharon Williams.
