Piano Master Class with Dr. Grigor Khachatryan: Monday, April 16

Join us for a Piano Master Class featuring Concordia College piano instructor, Dr. Grigor Khachatryan on Monday, April 16 at 8:15PM at Schmitt Music Fargo.

Dr. Grigor Khachatryan will perform solo piano pieces, and will listen to area piano students and offer instructive comments to improve their performance. Everyone is welcome to attend and listen to this fascinating process! Seating is limited, so please let us know if you plan to attend.

GRIGOR KHACHATRYAN

Born in 1986 in Yerevan, Armenia, Grigor Khachatryan began playing the piano at the age of 9. In addition to public school, he attended Barsej Kanachyan’s Music School of Yerevan and graduated with honors in 2002. In the summer of 2002, Grigor left his family and moved to the United States to pursue his dreams. Bedford, Ind., became his new home where he lived with a host family for two years. During this time, he also began to pursue his musical studies at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of distinguished professor of piano Luba Edlina-Dubinsky.

In 2004, Grigor began his collegiate career at Indiana University with the prestigious dean’s scholarship award. The Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music awarded Grigor a full scholarship and piano assistantship during his master, performer diploma and doctorate degrees. Grigor is currently on track to earn his doctorate degree by December 2014. Along with studies in Piano Performance, Grigor has earned his composition and music theory minors.

Grigor is a Silver Medalist of the Elite Generation National Piano Competition of Armenia. During his first year in the U.S., he won the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra Competition and later performed several concerts with them as a soloist. He is a prize winner in numerous state chamber music competitions as well as a prize winner in international competitions, among them the Cincinnati World Piano Competition and the International Russian Piano Competition.

Grigor finds it important to be involved in activities outside of music. He finds time to play soccer, paint, bike ride and build computers. He loves the company of close friends and family, appreciates good food, and loves spending time in nature.
