Sshhmute

Practice mutes have seen a great deal of innovation over the past five to ten years, resulting in a wide range of sizes, weights, prices and playability. One of the most innovative practice mutes to hit the market in the past handful of years has been the Sshhmute from Bremner Music. Based in New Zealand, the Sshhmute was the brainchild of Trevor Bremner, an acclaimed cornetist, and is one of the most responsive, freeist-blowing practice mutes available.

While being larger then some of the newer designs the Sshhmute is very light due to it’s lightweight plastic shell; in fact the amazing part of this design is that the mutes are just plastic shells but still manage to attenuate the sound so well while maintaining so much of the playability of an open horn. For trombone these are available for both tenor and bass trombone; the tenor works for 7″ to 8 1/2″ bells and the bass 9 1/2″ bells up.
