Join us for a clinic with saxophonist Doug Lawrence on Saturday, November 1 at 3PM at Schmitt Music Brooklyn Center – FREE!
Check out the amazing sounds of Doug Lawrence as he plays and talks about saxophones and music. Doug is a TM Custom artist, and we will have several TM Custom saxophones to try at the event. This is a great opportunity to see an incredible saxophonist and try out some great horns! Plus, Randy Jones – the creator of the TM custom – will also be on hand with an expanded inventory of saxophones and necks to audition. Please contact us for details and RSVP to the event!
Doug Lawrence is currently lead tenor with the 17-time Grammy-winning Count Basie Orchestra, the chair previously held by such greats as Lester Young, Hershel Evans, Buddy Tate, and Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, among other legends. With the Basie band and his own groups, Lawrence has literally toured the world, playing on six continents and in virtually every major concert hall, jazz club, and jazz festival in the world.
Think of Coleman Hawkins, Louis Armstrong, Ben Webster, Lester Young, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra. They were able to touch our collective soul with their extraordinary sense of phrasing. Tenor man Doug Lawrence has got it. His phrasing is fluid, relaxed, conversational and charming, just like his easy going, seductive Southern drawl.”
