Competitive Division

The selection of repertoire will be at the discretion of the student and teacher. One of the primary goals of the competition is to create a positive performance experience for young musicians. No minimum performance level is required. Up to 2 pieces of music may be selected, however only 1 piece is required. Each entrant will be allowed up to 10 minutes total video time to perform in front of the judges. All selections must be memorized and because of the virtual aspect, sheet music for the judges will not be necessary. A piano sonata would count as one piece.

** Each teacher may recommend as many students as are qualified to compete**

** Previous 1st Place Division Winners may not compete in the same Division again**

The YouTube links for the video(s) need to be sent to me by March 20, 2021. This is a hard deadline and no exceptions will be made! When emailing please include the students name, grade level, and if the links are for the Competitive Division or the Advanced Competitive Division. Only YouTube videos will be accepted!

Competitive Division Judging Date: April 18, 2021

The judges will watch the YouTube videos in the store auditorium socially distanced on that date. They will deliberate and choose the winners on that date and we will send an email out to all participants with the winners’ names. We will use our standard judging forms and the judges’ comments will be mailed to the teachers within a few days of the competition.

“We wanted to give the students a chance at competing this year! They have missed out on SO MUCH! We hope that this contributes in a positive way during these trying times!” -The Schmitt Music Staff

Honors Recital

In lieu of a live recital this year, we will send out an email featuring winners' videos via Schmitt Music email, YouTube, and social channels.

Due to the streamlined nature of this year’s virtual competition there will be no Non-Competitive Division. Students who would normally participate in Non-Competitive are invited to sign up for this Competitive Division. The winners will still be awarded a plaque and have an optional picture day, where we will take individual winners pictures. We won't have group photos this year. The appointments will be spaced 20-30 minutes apart. Also, we will only be awarding one award for each place; we won't have ties. The monetary awards will be offered as Visa gift cards.
