What is Small-Stars?

Schmitt Music Small-Stars is a new group lesson program offering musical experiences for children 3 to 6 years old. Small-Stars students will be introduced to ukulele, hand drumming, singing, notes, rhythm and movement. Schmitt Music's passion is to help our customers pursue their musical dreams by providing you with the best possible education experience. We look forward to showing your child the joys of music and creating many Small-Stars!

5 & 6 yr. olds » 4-Day Program

$140

Includes $10 Reg (Online), $60 Tuition (1st Mo. Online), $70 One-time Materials Fee (In-store)

This is a four day program for students ages 5 & 6. Students will experience ukulele and note naming, hand drums & counting, along with some vocal technique. Materials include $12 sound shape drum, $28 Ukulele, and $30 for 2 books with CDs.

Small-Stars Staff

Our four Small-Stars staff have over 50 years of combined teaching and professional stage experience. They look forward to welcoming you to the Small-Stars and teaching you how to ROCK!

Kris Pichelman – Vocal Instructor

Kris Pichelman - Burnsville Lead Instructor

Kris Pichelman has a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of WI-Eau Claire and a Master's Degree in Music from the University of Minnesota. She is experienced in school band, choir, general music, and as a private music teacher in the Burnsville area. Kris has also been active as a church music director and church musician. She has recently performed on stage in The Music Man for the Applause Community Theatre in the Mraz Center, the pit orchestra for Titanic at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center, and has conducted the productions of Mame for the Burnsville Civic Light Opera. She has three children who are all involved in music. Kris is excited to be able to be a part of the Small Stars program and eager to share her knowledge of music and performing with this new program of future stars!

Kelsey Jacobson – Vocal Instructor

Kelsey Jacobson - Brooklyn Center & Edina Lead Instructor

Kelsey Jacobson is a recent graduate from St. Catherine University (December, 2010). She holds a BA in Music Education and is a licensed Classroom/Vocal Music Instructor as well as a Classroom/Band/Orchestra Instructor here in Minnesota. As an active member of Music Edventures, Inc., she has had opportunities to work with leading Early Childhood and Elementary School music instructors around the world, in conferences as well as in classrooms. Through MEI's "sound-to-symbol" philosophy children are fully immersed in their musical experiences and are able to explore music through singing, playing, reading, writing and movement. In her class, children will be singing, dancing and reading Masterworks as well as folk music from around the world. They will be composing music and learning to play instruments. Kelsey's music class promises to be a joyful learning experience!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend Schmitt Music Small-Stars? Schmitt Music Small-Stars is open to students ages 3-6!

Does my child need to have their own instrument? Ukuleles, sound shape, lollipop drums and other materials are included in the cost of the tuition. No worries!

Can I sit in during the 3 & 4 year old class? Sure. Feel free to join us for the 3 & 4 year old class sessions. You will have a great time!

Will my student have to practice?Yes. It is important to schedule a consistent, daily time to practice. Especially for those students that are participating in the ukulele and percussion classes.

Can I pay monthly? We ask that tuition is paid in full at the time of registration.

What else do I need to know? A handbook is provided online that will answer many questions that you may have including tuition, attendance, bad weather, and withdrawals.
