On Sunday, April 21 the Schmitt Music Clarinet Gallery is excited to host a community clarinet choir festival featuring The Meridian Clarinet Quartet!
YOU can play in this community choir alongside the Meridian Clarinet Quartet! The quartet is stacked with top orchestral players from around the country: Sangyoon Kim – St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Associate Professor of Clarinet at the U of M, YaoGuang Zhai – Principal Clarinet with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Lin Ma – National Symphony Orchestra, and Tzuying Huang – St. Louis Symphony Bass Clarinetist.
The Meridian Clarinet Quartet, established in February 2023, is comprised of four accomplished musicians from prominent orchestras across the United States. Our name, ‘Meridian,’ signifies our converging paths here in the United States, all of us having traveled from one side of the globe to the other to embark on our respective musical journeys. It also symbolizes our aspiration to reach the great artistic heights only possible through sensitive and thoughtful collaboration, the musical thread passing through each of us before being transmitted to our audiences. Our mission is deeply rooted in nurturing appreciation for the enchanting world of clarinet music while fostering the talents of future generations.
All members of the Meridian Clarinet Quartet are Buffet Crampon Artists. Yao Guang Zhai, Lin Ma, and Sang Yoon Kim also hold the title of Vandoren Artists, while Tzuying is recognized as a D’Addario Artist and Sang Yoon Kim as a Silverstein Pro Team Artist.
