Join us for a free performance by Tommy Barbarella, and take part in our continued celebration of Schmitt Music’s 50 year relationship with the legendary piano builder Steinway & Sons. Our Spotlight on Steinway program will enrich your understanding and appreciation of the world’s finest piano. Within one hour, we will be touring the New York factory via video, seeing a live technical demonstration from our piano technician Simon Husbands, and finally a piano performance from our artist Tommy Barbarella.

Tommy Barbarella
Over the past two decades Tommy Barbarella has made s mark behind the scenes composing, touring, recording and performing with Prince, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Art Garfunkel, Ziggy marley and Love and Rockets – to name but a few. In the world of film, he has contributed his talents to Hollywood features by iconic directors like Spike Lee, Robert Altman and Marc Forester. As a child growing up in Minneapolis, he took to the piano at an early age of nine. Inhaling music, he soon learned to play the trumpet and set out to memorize the Oxford Concise Dictionary of Music.
Simon Husbands
Simon is a fully qualified piano technician from the UK, now living and working in Minneapolis, with over 15,000 piano tunings under his belt. He has extensive piano experience from working with small spinet pianos to leading the Schmitt Music team that rebuilt the Steinway B for the Governor’s Mansion in St. Paul. He is a fully qualified PianoDisc technician and installer.
