Live your Rock & Roll dreams by experiencing the entire music-making process with these national artists:

  • Mike Arturi, drummer for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band – The Lovin’ Spoonful
  • Tim Mahoney, singer/songwriter and finalist on “The Voice”
  • Jim Peterik is a founding member of the Ides of March and Survivor. Jim’s songwriting credits include “Vehicle,” “Hold on Loosely” (38 Special), and “Eye Of The Tiger.”

You’ll get real world professional insight about songwriting, rehearsing, the music business and presenting a polished live show. All participants will be placed in bands on the first day of the workshop. Each band will receive direction and coaching from Mike Arturi and Tim Mahoney in preparation for a live performance at the Nomad World Pub. Jim Peterik will visit and counsel all the bands during dress rehearsal following his songwriting/live performance master class. Jim will also be present for the final performances wrapping the show up with a three song set accompanied by Mike and Tim!

Principal Trumpet Manny Laureano, who joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1981, has performed solos in all the Orchestra’s concert series and served as an assistant conductor during the 2005-06 season. In 2003 he premiered Stephen Paulus’ Concerto for Two Trumpets and Orchestra, which was written for him and Doc Severinsen, who was then the Orchestra’s principal pops conductor. His other solos with the Orchestra have included Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto, Copland’s Quiet City, Clarke’s Southern Cross, Vizzutti’s Compadre, Hertel’s Concerto a cinque in D major, Bach’s Second Brandenburg Concerto, and concertos by Arutiunian and Tomasi.

Laureano is also in demand as a conductor. With his wife, Claudette, he serves as co-artistic director of the Minnesota Youth Symphonies. In 2006 he led a series of Minnesota Orchestra Young People’s Concerts, ¡Viva Latino!

Laureano, a native New Yorker, began playing trumpet in the public school system and later studied with James Smith while at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Arts and with William Vacchiano of the New York Philharmonic. After graduating from the Juilliard School of Music, Laureano served as principal trumpet of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

Lynn Godfriaux Maloy

Join us from 10 AM – 1 PM on Wednesday, February 27th for two free presentations by Lynn Godfriaux Maloy at Schmitt Music Denver.

10:00 AM – “Dyslexia and the Keyboard: When Students Can’t Read”

This presentation discusses issues surrounding elementary, intermediate, high school, and college piano students with reading problems, and addresses non-traditional teaching approaches.

11:30 AM – “Dyslexia: Recognizing the Invisible and How Teachers Can Help”

We’ll cover the myths and facts about dyslexia; the “3 camps” in the medical and educational fields concerning whether dyslexia is a correctable or a permanent problem; issues in this country with it being defined as a disability; international issues with diagnosis and special educational support; and how music teachers (piano, instrumental, classroom) might recognize and help students with dyslexia.

Lynn Godfriaux Maloy is a nationally and state-certified piano teacher through MTNA and CSMTA. Lynn received her music degrees from the University of Oklahoma, where she studied pedagogy under Dr. Jane Magrath, Dr. E.L. Lancaster, and Dr. Gayle Kowalchyk. Her applied teachers have included Dr. Digby Bell and Dr. Edward Gates (OU); Dr. Keith Walliingford; and Alvin Chow (CU Boulder). She is a member of MTNA, CSMTA, PPMTA, AMS, and the recently inducted CS Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. Lynn presented part one of her dyslexia lecture at the CSMTA State Convention in 2011 and will be presenting both sessions at the 2013 MTNA National Convention. In 2010, she published The Well-Tempered Poet: 24 Pictures and Poems, which is available online through Amazon, Authorhouse, and major book sellers.
